Can you book a whole Sahara camp for a family birthday?
Yes. Umnya Desert Camp, in the Erg Chegaga near M’Hamid El Ghizlane, can be taken as a whole for a family birthday: eight tent suites for 2 to 18 guests, and up to 20 with extra beds, with only your family and the team on site. You write with your dates and the number of guests, a written answer comes within 24 hours, and the rate is one global rate for the camp, set case by case, never per person. We advise two nights or more.
Ask for your datesHow a stay with the whole camp unfolds
Before you come. You write with your dates, the occasion and the number of guests. A written answer follows within 24 hours, with the sleeping plan, so that you see who sleeps where before anything is confirmed.
Arrival. The helicopter from Marrakech lands on the camp’s helipad after 1 h 40, or the camp’s 4x4s arrive after about 8 h 45 by road. A welcome with the nomads, tea, and the first sunset on the dunes.
The evening of the birthday. The Thousand and One Nights evening: candles set along the great dunes, music, a fire, and a long dinner under the stars.
The sky. A night of stargazing with a professional astronomer and telescopes, under a Bortle 1 sky.
The other days. A camel walk, sandboarding, the dunes on foot, or nothing at all. The farewell is with the nomads.
What the privatisation covers
When you take the whole camp, it closes to every other guest. What the rate covers is written out in the proposal, line by line, before anything is confirmed. In substance:
The whole camp, for your family alone. Eight tent suites, the dining and gathering spaces and the team. The only people on site are your family and us: no other guests, no shared lounge, nobody at the next table.
A suite for each household. Every suite has its own bathroom with a hot shower. The camp takes 2 to 18 guests, and up to 20 with extra beds.
The table. The meals are prepared by the camp’s kitchen. Dietary needs and the children’s preferences are given in advance.
The team and the arrival. One person coordinates with you, or with your event planner, in writing. The road transfer from Marrakech is made in the camp’s own 4x4s with its own drivers, and the helicopter is arranged by the team for those who fly.
Discretion. A non-disclosure agreement on request, no photographs of the hosts, nothing published during the dates of your stay. Invoicing can go through a company, a family office or a concierge service.
Drinks and phones. The camp is alcohol free by default, and champagne or drinks of your own can be arranged on request. There is no phone network and no wifi at the camp.
How to ask, and what happens next
Write to the team through the contact page or the form below, with your dates, the occasion and how many of you are coming. The answer comes in writing within 24 hours. The rate is one global rate for the whole camp, set case by case against your dates and what you ask for. It is never worked out per person, and no figure is published on the site.
We advise two nights or more, so that the day of the birthday has an evening before it and a morning after it. The camp is open from September to June.
To go further: how the days of a 50th birthday can run, how to reach the camp from Marrakech and which period suits a family celebration. The page on private exclusivity sets out the privatisation in general.
