Start with what you actually want

Most of what happens at Umnya was requested by a guest before it was a product. The sunrise breakfast on a dune, the bed set out under the stars, the bread baked in sand, the helicopter arrival: all of them began as somebody asking.

So the honest description of this page is that there is no fixed programme. You tell us what the occasion is, and we build around it.

What is genuinely flexible

The camp itself is yours alone for the length of your stay, so the timetable is not shared with anyone. Meals move. Dinner can be at eleven at night if that suits the group. Nothing has to happen at a set hour.

We can bring almost anyone from Marrakech at cost: a chef, a yoga teacher, a sound therapist, a photographer, a string quartet, a nanny. Give us enough notice and the answer is usually yes.

We can build things. A branded gathering point in the middle of the dunes, a prayer space, a proposal setup, a screening under the stars with a projector and a generator two hundred metres from the tents so the noise stays away.

What is not flexible, and why

The season. The camp runs roughly October to April. In high summer the daytime temperature makes the experience genuinely unpleasant, and we would rather turn the booking away than sell you a bad memory.

The number. Eight tents, each with a private bathroom, up to twenty guests, or up to twelve double tents for twenty four on a private operation. Beyond that we would be building a different camp.

Alcohol arrives with the group or is bought in Marrakech and brought down. This is a rural part of Morocco and there is no supplier nearby.

Arrival times. The last sixty kilometres are piste, and we do not drive guests across it in the dark unless there is a reason. Helicopter arrivals are the exception.

How a bespoke request actually works

You write to us with the occasion, the dates, the number of people and anything that matters more than the rest. We answer within a day with a written proposal and a price, not a brochure.

If the request needs somebody we do not have, we say so and give you the cost of bringing them. If it is not possible, we say that too, and quickly, because finding out late is worse than being told no.

Terms and the deposit schedule are sent in writing before anything is paid.

What people ask for most

Birthdays with a round number attached. Proposals. Anniversaries. Company offsites that need to be memorable rather than efficient. Family reunions spanning three generations. And, more often than you would guess, someone who simply wants four days of complete silence and has stopped being able to find it.

Any length from two nights, October to April. Tell us what you have in mind, even loosely, and we will tell you honestly whether we can do it.
