Where the luxury of a five-star hotel meets the silence of the world's greatest desert
Glamping — glamorous camping — in Morocco means waking inside a handcrafted Berber suite tent to the sound of absolute silence. No traffic, no neighbours, no noise. Just the dunes, the wind, and a breakfast served to your tent as the sun rises over the Sahara.
Umnya Desert Camp sits deep inside Erg Chegaga — Morocco's largest dune field, 40,000+ hectares of sculpted sand accessible only by 4×4. Our eight private tents are spaced far apart for complete privacy. Each has a proper bed dressed in premium linen, an en-suite bathroom with hot solar shower, and its own terrace facing the dunes.
Every evening, dinner is served in the open desert — long tables under the stars, Moroccan cuisine made with local produce, and the kind of silence that most of the world has forgotten exists.
Everything you need — nothing you don't
Handcrafted tent with real bed, premium linen, en-suite bathroom and private terrace facing the dunes.
Breakfast in your tent, lunch and a candlelit dinner in the open desert. Local Moroccan cuisine, fresh every day.
Cross the dunes at dawn the way nomads have for centuries. A slow, contemplative pace through golden light.
Guided astronomy session with telescopes under a Bortle 1 sky — one of the darkest in Africa.
Our fleet picks you up at M'Hamid and drives the 50 km piste through open desert to camp.
Sandboarding, desert walks, Berber music evenings, yoga sessions and guided dune climbs.
Only 8 tents in the whole camp — one of the smallest luxury camps in Morocco's Sahara.
Electricity, hot showers and lighting are all solar-powered. Minimal footprint, maximum comfort.
A dedicated team that knows you by name before you arrive. Every detail arranged in advance.
Accommodation
Each of Umnya's eight tents is a private world. Berber artisans designed the structure — stretched canvas over hand-carved wooden frames — while the interior is dressed for comfort: a king-size bed, handwoven rugs, traditional lanterns, and a bathroom with a flushing toilet and hot shower heated by solar panels.
The terrace faces east for sunrise, west for sunset. At night, because there are no electric lights visible in any direction, you step outside and the Milky Way runs overhead in full resolution.
There are other glamping options in Morocco. Here is what makes Erg Chegaga — and Umnya — different.
Agafay is a rocky plateau near Marrakech — dramatic, but not the Sahara. No dunes, no sand, 45 minutes from the city. Popular for weekend trips but far from the remote desert experience.
Many glamping camps in Morocco line dozens of tents along a dune edge, visible from each other. Umnya has 8 tents across a wide area. You will not see — or hear — other guests.
Erg Chebbi is smaller and accessed by paved road — which means quad bikes, tourist convoys and crowds. Erg Chegaga is accessed only by 4×4 piste. The difference in atmosphere is absolute.
The drive to reach us is an experience in itself. Guests who commit to 2+ nights enter a different relationship with time and silence. We recommend a minimum of two nights — most guests wish they'd stayed longer.
"The most extraordinary glamping I've experienced anywhere in the world. The silence alone is worth the journey."
