A Wedding in
the Sahara
No venue. No crowd. Just the two of you, an ocean of dunes, and a sky so dark it becomes the chandelier.
Plan Your CeremonyWhy the desert
The most extraordinary wedding venues aren't buildings
The Erg Chegaga is 40,000 hectares of sculpted sand — 300-metre dunes, absolute silence, and complete privacy. There is no hotel lobby to navigate, no other couples at the next table, no event coordinator with a headset. Just the landscape, and whatever you choose to do within it.
Most couples who marry here describe something they didn't expect: without the backdrop of a venue designed for weddings, the ceremony feels entirely theirs. The Sahara doesn't perform. It simply holds whatever you bring to it.
We arrange the table in the open desert, the lanterns, the Berber décor, the three-course feast — and then step back. The evening is yours.
Your ceremony, your way
We plan each detail before you arrive — so you simply arrive
Dune-Top Symbolic Ceremony
Reach the summit of the dunes on camelback at golden hour. Exchange vows as the sun dissolves into the Sahara horizon. No officiant required — just you, the view, and whatever words you choose to say.
Candlelit Dinner Ceremony
A table set in the open desert — lanterns, roses, Berber textiles. A three-course Moroccan feast served under stars so thick they seem within reach. Your first dinner as a married couple, in the quietest place on Earth.
Elopement Weekend
Arrive on day one, ceremony on day two at sunset, day three at leisure. Camel ride at dawn, stargazing with telescopes, breakfast brought to your tent. Everything arranged; nothing to organise.
Micro-Wedding (up to 30 guests)
Family and close friends reach Erg Chegaga by 4×4 convoy from M'Hamid. Ceremony in the dunes, group dinner under the stars, overnight stays in private tents. Intimate, epic, unforgettable.
What we arrange
Everything below is coordinated before your arrival — you walk in, and it's already done
Camelback to the ceremony
Private camel escort to your chosen dune at golden hour — the most cinematic entrance Morocco offers.
Candlelit table in the desert
Hand-placed lanterns, Berber rugs, locally sourced flowers or dried botanicals — set up in the open sand before you arrive.
Berber wedding feast
Three-course menu: pastilla, slow-cooked lamb tagine, honey-almond pastries. All cooked fresh in camp, served at your table.
Stargazing with telescope
After dinner, a guided session under a Bortle Class 1 sky — Milky Way overhead, Saturn's rings visible, shooting stars nightly.
Private tent suite
Your own Berber suite tent — real bed, en-suite solar shower, private sun deck facing the dunes. No shared facilities.
Golden-hour photography window
We time your ceremony for the perfect light. Sunrise or sunset — you choose. Some couples bring their own photographer; we guide the timing.
"We eloped at Umnya and it was the best decision of our entire trip. Waking up in the Sahara after our ceremony — completely alone, completely together — was something we will never find in a hotel or a chateau."

Desert wedding questions
Everything couples ask before reaching out
Can you get married in the Moroccan desert? +
Yes — symbolic ceremonies, elopements and intimate desert weddings are possible in the Sahara. Umnya Desert Camp hosts private celebrations in the dunes of Erg Chegaga. Legal marriage registration is handled separately through civil authorities; many couples legally wed at home and celebrate their ceremony here.
Is a Sahara elopement private? +
Completely. Erg Chegaga is 50km from M'Hamid with no other settlements — there are no other campers, no tourists passing by. Your ceremony happens in empty desert.
How many guests can come? +
Umnya has 8 private tents — ideal for micro-weddings of 2–16 overnight guests. For larger celebrations with day guests arriving by 4×4, we can accommodate up to around 30 people for ceremony and dinner.
What is the best time of year for a desert wedding? +
October–April is ideal — comfortable temperatures (15–25°C during the day, cool evenings). December and January are particularly magical with cold, clear skies and shooting star peaks. Avoid June–August (extreme heat, 40°C+).
Can we bring our own photographer? +
Absolutely — and we recommend it for wedding coverage. We guide the timing around golden hour and blue hour to ensure optimal light. We can also recommend photographers familiar with desert shoots in Morocco.
