Umnya Desert Camp is a private camp in Erg Chegaga, the most remote dune sea in Morocco. When your group is here, no one else is.

No hierarchy

In the desert, the usual signals disappear. No one knows whose office is bigger. The environment is the same for all. Conversations that are impossible in a boardroom happen naturally around a fire at 3,000 metres of dune.

There is no evening programme competing for attention. No city to escape to after dinner. The group stays together, in silence and in conversation, for the full duration. What emerges in that uninterrupted time is qualitatively different from what emerges in 45-minute breakout sessions.

    Most groups arrive for 4 nights. Some extend to 6 or 7 for deeper integration. The minimum is 3 nights.

    Bring your own coach, facilitator, or speaker. Or arrive with no agenda at all. Umnya does not impose a programme.

The Location

Erg Chegaga. The other Sahara.

Erg Chegaga is the largest and most remote dune sea in Morocco. Unlike the more visited Erg Chebbi near Merzouga, Erg Chegaga sits 65 kilometres from the nearest paved road. There are no tourist circuits here, no other camps visible on the horizon, no camel convoys passing at dusk.

The nearest town is M'Hamid El Ghizlane. The nearest city is Marrakech, six hours by 4x4 across the Atlas, or 1h40 by private helicopter.

The camp accommodates 6 to 12 guests for a full privatization. Pricing reflects the group size, duration, transfer format, and any facilitation requirements.

What size groups does Umnya accommodate?

The camp accommodates groups of 6 to 12 for a full privatization. No other guests. No shared spaces. Your group has the entire desert camp for the duration of the stay.

Can we bring our own facilitator?

Yes. Many groups arrive with their own coach, facilitator, or structured agenda. Umnya provides the environment, logistics, and camp experience. The intellectual content and facilitation remain entirely yours. Custom facilitation can also be arranged upon request.

Is there connectivity at the camp?

There is no cell signal at Erg Chegaga. Limited satellite Wi-Fi is available by arrangement for genuine operational needs. Most groups find the absence of connectivity to be the single most valuable feature of the retreat.

How do we get to the camp?

A private 4x4 transfer departs from Marrakech and takes approximately 5 to 6 hours through the Atlas Mountains and the Draa Valley. Helicopter transfer is available for groups who prefer to minimize travel time. Both can be combined.

What is the best time of year?

October through April is the ideal season. Temperatures are comfortable during the day and cool to cold at night. December, January, and February are particularly popular for groups wanting a genuine contrast with their home climate.
