Astrophotography Retreat

Where the night sky comes alive

For astrophotographers, the Sahara desert is paradise. Our location in Erg Chegaga offers some of the darkest skies on Earth, Bortle Class 1, the highest possible rating for sky quality. There is no light pollution for hundreds of kilometers.

Imagine setting up your tripod as the last colors of sunset fade, then watching the Milky Way rise in spectacular fashion above the dunes. This is the experience that awaits you.

What you’ll capture

  • The galactic core of the Milky Way in stunning detail
  • Star trails arcing over Berber tents
  • Time-lapses of the celestial sphere rotating
  • Deep sky objects: nebulae, galaxies, star clusters
  • Panoramic night landscapes with foreground dunes

Expert guidance

Our retreats are led by experienced astrophotographers who will teach you camera settings, composition techniques, and post-processing workflows. Whether you’re a beginner with a DSLR or an experienced shooter looking for new horizons, you’ll leave with skills and images you’ll treasure.

Best timing

We schedule retreats during new moon weeks for optimal sky darkness. Each retreat includes 4-5 nights of shooting, weather permitting (the Sahara has 300+ clear nights per year).
