Your own world.
The desert to yourselves.
A private camp in the deepest Sahara. Complete isolation. A team that treats every guest exactly the same way. Umnya is for everyone, unconditionally.
Plan Your StayThe camp
Private, enclosed, completely yours
Umnya Desert Camp sits 50km from M'Hamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the open desert. There are no neighbours. No passing strangers. No one whose opinion of you matters or exists.
The camp is private and enclosed, staffed by a small professional team whose single priority is making your stay exceptional. What you are, who you love, how you present, none of that changes how you are received here. It simply doesn't enter the equation.
Many of our guests describe this as the first place they've been on holiday where they could stop thinking about who might be watching. That quality of relief, combined with the Sahara's own quiet, is something people return for.
Complete privacy
50km from the nearest settlement. No public spaces, no shared areas you didn't choose to enter. Your tent is your world.
No single supplement
Solo LGBT travellers pay the standard rate. No questions about room configuration, no forms about relationship status.
Couples of all kinds
Two guests, any combination, one private tent. It is your space. We arrange it the way you want it.
Same warmth, every guest
The Moroccan tradition of hospitality, l'hôte est sacré, applies to every person who walks into this camp.
A gay honeymoon in the Sahara
The setting. The detail. The complete absence of everyone else.
Candlelit dinner in the dunes
A table set in the open desert, lanterns in the sand, the Milky Way above. Dinner for two with no one else in sight. We arrange every detail.
Private sunrise camel ride
Just the two of you, two camels, a guide, and the dunes turning gold. The kind of moment that needs no filter and no audience.
Stargazing, just you
Bortle Class 1 sky, among the darkest on earth. A private telescope session after dinner. No other guests, no group schedule. Your pace, your sky.
Tent prepared your way
Rose petals, a special arrangement, champagne on arrival, tell us what you have in mind for your honeymoon. We make it happen.
Sunrise at the dune crest
Wake before the camp stirs. Climb together to the highest point. Watch the desert turn from silver to gold. No alarm needed, it's worth it.
Breakfast at your tent
Moroccan breads, honey, fresh fruit, mint tea, served at your tent in the morning quiet. The world can wait.
"We were nervous about Morocco given the legal context. Umnya was the opposite of what we feared, the team was warm, completely professional, and we had two nights where we just forgot about all of it and were simply us, in the desert. It was the best part of our honeymoon."

Questions from LGBT travellers
What guests ask before booking
Is Morocco safe for LGBT travellers? +
Morocco's laws on same-sex relationships are strict, and public displays of affection between same-sex couples can attract attention in cities and towns. At Umnya Desert Camp, 50km from the nearest village, completely private and enclosed, guests are in their own world. Many LGBT couples and solo travellers stay with us each year and describe feeling completely free and at ease in the camp environment. We are transparent about the wider context so guests can make an informed choice.
Is Umnya explicitly LGBT-friendly? +
Yes, unconditionally. Every guest is welcomed with the same warmth. There is no question about the nature of your relationship, no form about gender configuration, no judgement of any kind. Our hospitality is complete or it is not hospitality.
Can two men or two women share a tent? +
Yes. A private tent accommodates two guests, any combination. You tell us how you want the tent arranged (one large bed or separate beds), and that is what you find. The tent is your space entirely.
Do I need to be discreet at the camp? +
Within the camp, you have complete freedom. The camp is private and enclosed, there are no outside visitors, no public passers-by. The team's professionalism is absolute. Outside the camp, on day excursions into M'Hamid or Zagora, the same discretion as any traveller in a conservative country applies.
Can we add honeymoon extras to our booking? +
Yes. Tell us when you book, or email us beforehand, and we'll arrange whatever you have in mind: rose petals, a special dinner setup in the dunes, champagne, a private camel ride at golden hour. These details matter and we take them seriously.
Is the desert a good destination for solo LGBT travellers? +
Exceptionally so. The desert is indifferent to everything except your presence in it. Solo LGBT guests describe a quality of freedom and ease that many don't find in more social, more visible holiday settings. The camp is safe, staffed, and completely private.
