Private Desert Camp Buyout Morocco: Cost Breakdown

Private Buyout Privatization Pricing Sahara Erg Chegaga Morocco Luxury Travel

Search for the cost of a private desert camp buyout in Morocco and you will find a wall of “contact us for pricing.” We understand why operators do it, and we think it wastes everyone’s time. If you are planning a retreat, a milestone birthday or an executive offsite, you need a real number before you can even decide whether the idea is viable.

So here is ours, in plain terms.

The Headline Number

A full privatization of Umnya Desert Camp at Erg Chegaga starts at 5,800 euros per night for up to 16 guests. At current exchange rates that is about $6,300, which works out to roughly $400 per guest per night, all-inclusive, when the camp is full.

That single figure buys the entire camp. Not a section of it, not a cluster of tents with strangers over the next dune. Every tent, every staff member, every fire and every horizon is yours, and no one else can book in.

What the Buyout Includes

The rate is genuinely all-inclusive. When we say from 5,800 euros per night, that covers:

The whole camp: 8 tents for up to 16 guests. Suites and lodge tents with real beds, private bathrooms and hot showers, in open dunes with no other camp in sight.

All meals and drinks. Breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared on site, from Berber tagines to refined dinners under lanterns, plus tea, coffee, water and soft drinks throughout. Dietary requirements are handled in advance, not improvised.

The full team, exclusively yours. Camp manager, chefs, service and guides work only for your group during the buyout. With 16 guests, the staff-to-guest ratio is one most hotels cannot approach.

Private 4x4 transfers. The journey in from M’Hamid, where the paved road ends, is 90 minutes of off-piste driving through the dunes, and it is included, as is the return. Longer transfer packages from Marrakech can be added.

Signature experiences. Camel treks at sunset, sandboarding, dune walks, Berber music by the fire, stargazing under one of the darkest skies on Earth. These are part of the stay, not a supplements menu.

What costs extra is genuinely extra: alcohol arrangements, helicopter or private air transfers, external facilitators, production equipment for shoots, and bespoke requests such as a private chef flown in or a fireworks-free celebration design (the sky here needs no fireworks). We quote those transparently on top.

How That Compares to Per-Person Retreat Pricing

Some context makes the number easier to judge. Our hosted retreat formats typically run in the low hundreds of euros per person per night once accommodation, meals, transfers and activities are combined, and multi-day themed retreats at the camp are priced in the 2,500 to 3,500 euro range per person for roughly a week.

A full group of 16 on a buyout, at roughly 360 euros per guest per night, therefore lands at or below the per-person cost of joining a scheduled retreat, while giving the group something no shared departure can: total control. Your schedule, your programme, your music or your silence, your people only.

The arithmetic shifts with group size, and honestly so. Ten guests on a buyout pay 580 euros each per night; six pay closer to 970. Smaller groups are effectively paying for privacy itself, and for many of the people who book us, privacy is precisely the product.

Who Books Full Buyouts

Four groups account for nearly all of our privatizations.

Retreat leaders and facilitators. Yoga teachers, coaches and founders of small programmes who sell places to their own clients. The economics work well: a leader filling 14 guest places around the buyout rate has a defensible margin, and the exclusivity is a genuine selling point for their marketing. Our host your retreat page details how we support leaders on programme design and logistics.

Milestone birthdays and celebrations. Fortieths, fiftieths, anniversaries, small weddings. A private camp in the open Sahara solves the problem every milestone host faces: how to give twelve people an experience none of them has had before.

Family offices and multigenerational trips. Families who value discretion book the camp precisely because there is no lobby, no other guests and no cameras, just staff who are used to serving quietly.

Executive offsites and leadership teams. A leadership team with no signal, no meeting rooms and no exits has conversations it does not have anywhere else. The absence of connectivity, which worries organizers at first, is consistently the element executives praise afterwards.

Practical Notes Before You Ask for a Quote

  • Minimum stay: buyouts run from two nights; the format truly works at three or more, because the first day is largely arrival and decompression.
  • Season: September to June. October, November, March and April book furthest ahead.
  • Getting here: most groups take private 4x4s from Marrakech, about a day’s spectacular drive through the Draa Valley, or fly closer via Zagora arrangements.
  • Lead time: peak-season buyouts are typically reserved three to six months out.
  • Payment: deposits by bank transfer or card; full terms come with the written quote.

The Honest Summary

From 5,800 euros per night, a group of up to 16 gets a private luxury camp in the deep Sahara with every tent, meal, transfer and experience included, at a per-guest cost comparable to a good city hotel that comes with none of this. Whether that is a bargain or an extravagance depends entirely on what your group is celebrating, deciding or recovering from.

If you are weighing a privatization, our private and exclusive page shows the camp as your group would have it, and we answer every enquiry with a real itemized quote, not a brochure. The number above is where it starts; the desert is what it buys.
